One of my favorite SL memories is last year's advent hunt at Sway's Creations... and it's not just because of the wonderful gifts. The marketplace was covered in snow and filled with wintry and holiday cuteness. It was impossible not to feel festive as I hunted around for each password. Although I hadn't been in SL for a couple of months, I began to think about that event as this year's Christmas season approached. After wondering if there would be another hunt this year, I logged in and headed straight to the source. Voila! The Advent Train! While I was waiting for the train to rez, I noticed this adorable hat in the clothing shop and had to get it. Luckily I had these super cute mittens from Reek to keep my hands warm in the frosty air.

I'm finally home after spending six weeks in Germany. While I still feel completely out of the loop, London Dailey caught me up on the latest releases from Pink Outfitters. The Painters Destroyed Denim Capris and Main St. Swing Jacket came out yesterday and are part of the New York Street Style Collection. As always, the jeans are hand drawn and wonderfully textured. The jacket is super cute and the perfect warm weather way to pull a look together.

After being away from SL for almost two weeks due to a friend's visit, I feel completely out of the loop. Lucky for me there were some great things waiting for me when I got back. The first item is the Madeleine Skin, the latest release from YourSkin & YourShape. While I'm hardly a skin expert, I find this skin absolutely beautiful in every makeup option. It amazes me how quickly Monicuzza Babenco can put out new skins and continue to get better and better. Her business partner and friend, Monyka Benelli, came out with two pairs of lovely sculpted feet shoes at the affordable price of 300L each. Not only are these two talented, but they are also two of the nicest people I've met. In other newness (for me anyway) is this tee from Drowsy. It's so adorable... it reminds me of little boys' pajamas.

One of my RFL Clothing Fair purchases was the Savvy dress by eLDee. I liked the whole dress, but was particularly drawn in by the top part of it. When I combined it with pants, I loved it so much that I contacted Lilyana Dryke and asked if she'd be willing to make it in other layers so it can be worn as a separate shirt. She agreed and even said she'd make other colors of it. They're not out yet, but I'm looking forward to when they are. In other newness, Cherry came out with really nice slingbacks (my pictures don't do they justice) and my favorite ring store, SyDS, came out with a ruby version of the chocolate flower ring.

BP* released new cuteness yesterday in the form of these flare jeans. I like the way they slightly turn up at the bottom, showing a bit of the checked pattern. Today's outfit was put together around the new Vixie Chocolate Pearl Necklace from KessKreations. My pictures don't do justice to this lovely piece, particularly the details on the front toggle clasp. Last week I received the Female Bloggers poses from Dove Swanson of Long Awkward Pose as part of her Blogger Appreciation Program. This made me realize that as essential as poses are to my photos, I've never dedicated a post to them or even mentioned them within the body of a post. When I think about how much I love poses and how I can spend more time trying to find the perfect pose for an outfit than it takes me to put the outfit together in the first place, I wonder why I have been so neglectful. As much as any article of clothing, poses can instantly convey the mood of an outfit or post... they can express certain nuances that would take many words to describe and end up detracting from the post or boring the reader to death. With that in mind, I decided to dedicate today's post (and hopefully future ones if I can figure out a better presentation of them) to some of my favorite poses.

No pose collection would be complete without poses from LAP. While it would be impossible to choose my favorite LAP pose, I went with what I consider my LBD (little black dress) of poses - Fierce Carrie from the SLex and the City collection. If it weren't for a need for variety, I'd use this pose in every post. I like how it conveys attitude through such a simple stance. I also love Twosome poses for their quirkiness; Aw Really? is my all-time favorite. Although I usually prefer cute/quirky/silly poses, I really like Cool #05 from C'est la vie because of its silhouette and the angle of the right leg (similar to Aw Really?'s). I've never used the Giselle poses from Elisa, but bought the full pack because of how lovely they are.

Love comes... and goes. That's the saying on one of DP Serendipity's new Attitude Love Tees. Masuri Dryke created these tees to inspire confidence and acceptance of the ever complicated and changing nature of Love. The Love Comes and Goes tee comes with two versions (stripes and without stripes) on all layers and is available in seven colors. In collaboration with Maruko Sakigake of WMD, DP Serendipity also released these low rise jeans in regular and ripped (worn below) versions. In skin newness, YourSkin released three new skins. I am wearing the Isabeau skin with freckles. I really like this lighter skin tone and expect to wear it frequently. I saw these glasses on Better Imagined by Abra and immediately ran out to get them for myself. So cute!!

A friend of mine had been looking for a new skin, but couldn't find one she really loved. When I saw her today, I noticed she was wearing a new skin and looked very pretty. She told me she got it from YourSkin & YourShape Shop, a store I hadn't heard of until yesterday when the owner sent me selections from six different skins. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but in the small chance it was a cryptic message from the SL skin gods to try on the skins already, I did just that. While it was a difficult decision to choose which skin to wear, I finally went with Sole Reloaded. It is quite lovely and complements the soft springy look of today's outfit.

Today's outfit started with new hair cuteness from BP*. Released yesterday were three different bobs that come with a couple of options, most notably a version with flower petals in it (not worn). The one I bought comes with color change hair ornaments too. Also released yesterday was the Sweat T, a cute and casual top, from DP yumyum. While a basic white tee might not sound very exciting, I was thrilled to get the NO NAME tee from DP Serendipity. It comes with both a long and short sleeved version on all layers. This is the perfect wardrobe addition for anyone who likes to layer their clothing. The perms are copy/mod, allowing you to tint the color to match other clothes.

DP Serendipity released some lovely new lingerie I was lucky enough to receive. Just in time for Valentine's Day, these beautifully drawn pieces are both sweet and sexy. The delicate details and soft colors give a fresh and feminine quality while the design adds a touch of sensuality. Also released were cut sewns that can be worn over the lingerie or as a regular shirt. They come in two versions - with and without the embroidery detail. Inspired by traditional Japanese colors, such as aofuji, azuki, and moegi, Masuri created a wonderful fusion of past and present in her latest designs.

If it's true that the harder you work for something the more it means, then the Colorful Cotton Blouses from DP yumyum are the most valuable items in my inventory. Since they were only available through a hunt, I went hunting for them. The only snafu was that all the directions were in Japanese and I can't even recognize a single character. After spending a long time throwing beans at the practice instead of real (well, real for SL) monsters, a very kind girl must have taken pity on me and attempted to explain the rules; unfortunately, she spoke only Japanese. However, after a very very long time, I finally managed to find the real monsters, kill them, and win the shirts. The girl who helped me looked adorable and wore this hair from Truth. I wear it in homage to her.

As I was wandering around SL, I came across a little store I'd never been to before called Marble. Well, it's not actually a store, but a display of a few items in a cafe. For sale were raglan tees and a lovely skirt in 3 different patterns. All items are 50L each... quite a bargain! Speaking of bargains, I got these boots for 2L at Jetcity, where all items in the store are 0L or 2L. There are some really cute things there. While they seem geared toward guys, girls can certainly wear them too.

DP yumyum is not only my favorite store name, but one of my favorite stores too. With each new release, the quality gets better and better and the Tweed Jacket is no exception. I love its style, texture, and details. The prim resizer on the jacket makes for a perfect fit (I admit I did have trouble getting it to fit at first, but that is only because I am a dumdum) while the various options make it quite versatile (it comes with both a checked and non-checked version as well as with or without the tee). The pants from Anuenue are pure cuteness and come in three versions: long, short, and one of each (shown below).

Feeding the monster

A while ago I told my friend, London Dailey (of Pink Outfitters), about how I used to wish that Elika would name one of her ETD hairs after me (no, I've never met her, but that's what is so great about dreams!). Since there is no Fionna hair, London must have felt bad for me because she named her newest sweater after me. Although she thinks I'm only saying this because of how they're named, these sweaters are great and would be a staple in my RL wardrobe. The Fi sweater comes in two versions: the regular cardigan (shown below), which comes with and without a tank underneath, and one with holes that form a delicate and feminine pattern. My plan was to show both versions in this post, but SL was not cooperating at all. I'll show the other one when I can finally log in to SL. Also new from PO are these bermuda shorts, which I absolutely love. The style is classy and chic, the texturing is beautiful, and the button on the cuffs (not visible in this pic - sorry!) adds realistic detailing to the overall tailored look. Hmm... maybe I can convince London to make an entire line of Fi clothing!

DP Serendipity, part 1

As I mentioned in my previous post, DP Serendipity's new main store opened on Saturday. Although I was too laggy to explore the entire sim, I was able to check out Masuri's new releases while listening to the music from the party outside. As usual, her designs show off her talent for drawing, creating nice details and textures, and making classic pieces of clothing I'd buy in RL. One of the things I really like about these pieces is the options they come with. For example, the jacket (shown below) comes with a choice of plain or gold striped sleeves for more of a marine type look. Also shown are the are the new 802 jeans and marine top (on left). I'll show more examples of these new releases in my next post.

I knew that DP Serendipity, one of my favorite stores, was moving to a new sim along with LOTTA and The Closet, but thought it would be a while before it was ready to open. As I was at the Aventi Island location about to buy this dress today, I heard from store owner, Masuri Dryke, that the opening is scheduled for this coming Saturday. There will be opening festivities, including live DJ's, from 5:00-8:00 AM (PST), as well as long-awaited new releases!

The gift of the magi

As I continue to work on organizing (and decreasing) my inventory from all the holiday gifts and hunt prizes, I am struck by the generosity of so many creators here in Second Life. Although I didn't even come close to finishing the POE hunt, I made sure not to miss the daily gifts at stores like Sway's Creations and Artilleri. While I could go on and on about the wonderful gifts these stores gave for the holidays, I'm sure tons of people have already beat me to it. Instead, I'd like to focus on a different type of generosity: low prices.

I first went to Magi Take a long time ago, but then forgot about it until it was a participant in several recent hunts. Although the prices have remained the same, both the quality and selection have improved. Almost every piece of clothing is 10L (with discounted fatpacks about 40L), with some older items or accessories at 5L. Group members receive a copy of each new release in a special group-only color. All the past group gifts are available to get at the main store with the group tag activated. The furniture is also inexpensive and cute (55L for a piano). Thanks to Take Lowey (whom I have never met) for a great store and generous spirit.

Creators Pavilion is one of my favorite shopping districts. While I was perusing the winter sale there, I came across several items I had to have. These pants from B&G came with both a black and gray pair and prim leg parts for only 50L. The tights were 30L for a 10 pack at G^G. Although this sweater from Unknown Boutique wasn't on sale, I really liked it, and think it's still a bargain at 90L for a variety of layer options and choice to wear with or without the shirt underneath.

With all the hunts and holiday gift giving going on, I really shouldn't have the need to shop. When I came across this sweater and these shorts, I couldn't help myself, though. The sweater, from MNK Shop, comes in two versions - the one I'm wearing below and a longer one with a belt. It also comes with a black shirt to wear underneath (not worn). The shorts I found in Sen 2 while wandering around a shopping plaza and I immediately tp'd to the main store, where there are a lot of cute items. I particularly like the back pockets and the waistband (not visible here) on these shorts.

I just realized that my av has been walking around looking like Michael Jackson!! Why didn't anyone tell me!?!?! I've always struggled with getting the face to look like I'd like it to, but familiarity must have made me immune to the recognition of plastic surgery gone horribly awry! It wasn't until I was given this soon to be released skin by Pink Outfitters that I decided to change my shape. After getting accustomed to my new appearance, I looked back with horror at my old one. It's like looking at old photos and wondering what on earth you were thinking when you proudly sported that mullet. Sigh. Anyway, onto the post... This dress from Twee is one of my all time favorites. I always thought of it as a summery dress and usually paired it with red sailor-ish accessories. For today, I chose cooler tones, including silver metallic tights and shoes, to create a more wintery look. It sort of reminds me of an icicle.

I vowed I wouldn't buy anything new until I seriously cleaned out my inventory. Amid the deletion of some 700+ items, I came across some free dresses I got from Cupcakes (now M&R Cupcakes) a while ago, but never wore. The bottom of the Lori dress works perfectly as a skirt and looks cute with these fantastic shoes from Nonko, also which I've never worn. The cape and gloves are part of a free dress set from Bijou (I'm not sure if they're still there, but it's worth taking a look). Yes, the shirt is new, but I didn't go shopping (I swear!!); it was sent out to the CKS Designs subscribomatic group yesterday. Although unintentional, I noticed that many components of this outfit were free. I wonder what else I'll find when I tackle that inventory again...

Today's outfit is made up of some of my favorite new things (or new to me, at least) and old things. I love this new hair from DP yumyum and the color change scarf from Candy Nail. The jewelry is beautiful and fantastically detailed and worth much more than the bargain prices (earrings are a group gift from NoLabel and the ring is only 30L at SyDS!!). These boots, originally from Last Call (but now at Jaywalk), are still a wardrobe staple. The Surf Co. tank dates back to my newbie days, but is actually still wearable!

Today I came across quite possibly the cutest av ever... and my first thought really was "I want to squeeze him!" Because I didn't know him at all and we speak different languages (I can only imagine how "squeeze" would be translated!), I refrained from making such a request. I did, however, get out my English to Japanese translation tool and ask if I could take his picture for this blog. Luckily, he agreed.

Taro Bosatsu does not look like the typical male av (if there is such a thing). I love his quirky sense of style (how cute are the flowers on his hat!?!?!) and the fact that he doesn't look like he's pumped full of steroids. I later learned that he is the owner of lalalalab SIM, has a small shop in Creators Pavillion, lalala lab shop, and a blog (in Japanese).

Oh how I love Dolly Gwynneville. She told Naith Smit of Naith Smit Designs to get in touch with me about blogging some of his clothes, and I was happy to oblige (ok, so I totally stole that from her post). He sent me a pack of his Women's Open Office Shirts and I really like them. They are very good quality and well detailed. The collar and arms parts are nicely done too, but if they look wacky here that's only because I'm a big dork and didn't properly modify them. The other great thing about this shirt is its versatility. While Naith's shop has more of an urban and gritty feel to it, this shirt translates well to a variety of styles, including the one below.

I've liked this shirt since it was first released not too long ago, with one exception: its length. In general, I prefer shirts that reach the waist of my pants (yes, even with a perfectly flat SL stomach). London (Dailey of Pink Outfitters) tells me I'm weird and wouldn't make a longer version despite my pathetic begging. I know the covered belly and sweater coat don't make for the sexiest outfit, but at least it's.... warm(?).

Part of the fun of SL is doing things I wouldn't ordinarily do in RL. This applies not only to impossible feats, such as flying, but some of the outfits I wear as well. Today's post isn't about that, however. You see, when I put on this new coat from DP Serendipity (also in brown), my first thought was, "I need this in RL!!!" The new sweaters and socks (in 11 different colors) look so cozy, they had me imagining myself curled up in a chair reading a book or just being lazy. Unfortunately, I don't think Masuri Dryke, owner of DPS, has any plans to make me a RL wardrobe, so I'll just have to continue to wear and admire the one she provides me with here.

When I decided to do some posts on Halloween costumes, I immediately thought of BareRose. It's a store I really like and and where I always find at least one thing to buy. I'll be honest, however, and admit that I don't quite understand a lot of the outfits there. While I admire the quality and creativeness it must have taken to think up and make them, I often have no idea under what circumstance or in what situations one would wear them. The names of these outfits don't usually provide me with any clues either. The outfit for today's post isn't specifically a Halloween costume by BareRose standards, but it sure works for me as one. It comes with two hat options (with or without bats), a staff (not shown) and in four colors: black, red, orange, and pink (shown below), all for 160L.

It's no secret that DP Serendipity is one of my favorite stores. Usually I rush right over as soon as new items are released, but somehow I missed the notice the other day. Lucky for me, Masuri Dryke let me know by dropping them in my inventory. As usual, her designs are fabulous. The Shantung Silk gown is absolutely gorgeous. I love the texture and the sculpted leg parts of the 801 jeans. The Monkey Business tees are so cute and come in tons of layer combinations (I love that!).
